Holy
Water
Good evening.
Let me thank the Pastor for the opportunity
of speaking to you.
The title for tonight’s sermon is Holy
Water.
Would you please rise for the reading of
God’s word.
(John
4:14) "Whosoever
drinks of the water that I shall give him shall
never thirst, but the water that I shall give him
shall be in him a well of water springing up into
everlasting life.”
You may be seated.
There is no satisfaction in
things of this earth. Christ pointing to the
waters of Jacob’s well, said (John4:13)
"He
that drinks of this water shall thirst
again." The value of the riches of this
world are like a shallow well that fades with
time, and we come again to desire more.
The waters of this world are like flesh, or
grass both of which fade.
Thus, we thirst again.
Eternal satisfaction for
man’s soul can come only from the Eternal.
How then can our thirst be quenched?
Christ answers, “Whosoever
drinks of the water that I shall give him shall
never thirst, but the water that I shall give him
shall be in him a well of water springing up into
everlasting life.”
Unlike the waters of this
earth, this water is not one which we pursue or
earn. Rather
Christ gives it to us freely.
This water can not be bought at any price.
Our fitness to drink is not a prerequisite
to drink.
The woman, a sinner like us, was told that
had she known that the living water was a gift of
God, she would have asked and Christ would have in
turn freely given.
If man wants wages, only
death awaits. (Romans
6:12) “The wages of
sin is death.”
God grace is to give us eternal life.
(same
verse) “the
gift of God is eternal life.”
Thus, our salvation is based purely
upon God’s love and charity for us.
Note the source of this
water. Christ
tells us (John 4:14), “the
water that I shall give him.”
Salvation comes from Christ alone, and no
other faith.
We gain forgiveness through His blood, and
an eternal pattern for life.
Where
then is this salvation received?
(John
4:14) "He that drinks of the water that I shall give him."
The living water is not for the washing of
the hands, but is instead directed toward the
washing of our inward parts.
Man is 98% water. This water given, becomes part of our very being.
We must receive it in trust, totally
depending upon Him, loving him, following him,
yielding to him.
Through the Holy Spirit we are given a new
heart, and a right spirit, as Christ reside within
us as His palace.
Faith
is not a medal to be worn about the neck, but
rather it is worn in our inner parts.
Christ is not found as a picture on the
wall, but must rather be receive in our hearts.
(Colosians
1:27) "Christ in you the hope of glory."
Have you drank from this
water? Let us be sure tonight.
(Ecclesiastes
1:2) “Vanity of
vanities, all is vanity, says the preacher.”
If your not sure, then it is time to drink,
(John
4:14) “Whosoever
drinks of the water that I shall give him shall
never thirst.”
Let every head be bowed,
and every eye closed.
Please repeat after me, Heavenly Father, by
Your Holy Spirit we accept today in Jesus Christ
your living water.
Amen.
